Murals continue to bring the magic of Disney storytelling to Munich Children’s Hospital Patients

The Walt Disney Company Germany has collaborated with two leading hospitals in Munich, Germany to bring specially designed murals inspired by the worlds of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars to their children’s wards.

In the Munich Clinic and the TUM University Hospital German Heart Centre the colourful murals were added to walls on patient floors. The murals aim to bring comfort, build trust, and ease fear and anxiety in young patients.

In the paediatric ward of the German Heart Centre, Disney murals were incorporated to both a treatment room and a playroom and included Disney themed toys and books. The Disney worlds and characters were carefully chosen to create a comforting environment to help build trust for children in anxious circumstances.

During the last year, Disney’s partnership with the Munich Clinic, has brought ‘Moments that Matter’ to children and those closest to them, through a special screening of Disney’s Snow White, a visit by Disney artist Ulrich Schröder, and a meet and greet with beloved character Stitch. In addition to installing custom-designed murals in four treatment rooms.

Dr. med. Mark Malota, senior physician of the clinic’s children’s surgery at Munich Clinic said: “We are all very happy with the murals, we would love to see the other treatment rooms outfitted with Disney Murals as well.”

Disney has a long-standing partnership with both hospitals and collaborating to create the best possible hospital experience for children and those closest to them. In addition to murals providing comfort, Disney’s hospital program includes themed get-well certificates and gifts handed out to patients, and complementary Disney+ subscriptions for hospitals, as well as visits from Disney’s beloved characters to provide a familiar touchpoint to patients in an otherwise unfamiliar environment.

Continuing to build on Disney’s social purpose strategy and our recently fulfilled commitment to contribute $100m globally to children’s hospitals, our efforts are focused on strengthening the emotional resilience and delivering ‘Moments that Matter’ to children and the ones closest to them when they need them most. Through this work, Disney has delivered comfort and joy to children in nearly 1600 hospitals around the world.
