Disney Musicals in Schools launches in London.
Disney Theatrical Group, in partnership with arts charity Eastside Educational Trust, launches a sustainable musical theatre programme in London primary schools.
The Disney Musicals in Schools programme, delivered by Disney Theatrical Teaching Artists, gives London based teachers the support and development necessary to produce their own musical theatre productions and embed a theatre programme within their schools that will continue for years to come. As well as strengthening their skills in acting, singing, dancing and working backstage, students will develop confidence, presentation skills and learn how to collaborate.
Five London primary schools are selected, each year, to take part in the Disney Musicals in School residency programme which will bring the magic of Disney musicals into their schools. Disney KIDS musicals, created in partnership with Music Theatre International Europe (MTIE), are 30-minute musicals designed for primary school performers and have been adapted from classic Disney titles including The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Aladdin, and more into their schools.
The 17-week programme in each school culminates in a Disney KIDS production and the young performers are granted the unique opportunity to showcase their work at a special performance on stage at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End, home of Disney’s The Lion King.
