Disney UK won the Health & Wellness award at this year’s Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) Awards for its ongoing Healthy Living commitment.
With over 25 years of heritage, the IGD acts as the “voice” of the grocery industry; its annual awards celebrate innovation and pioneering initiatives in the food industry and are judged by a panel of industry experts.
Examples of the Disney UK Healthy Living commitment include reformulating products with licensed food and drink partners and transforming 85 per cent of their portfolio to align with nutritional guidelines by significantly reducing sugar, salt and fats across the board. The company has also introduced the Disney Kitchen label for compliant food and drink products that includes nutritional information alongside the characters that children know and love, and its partnerships with Public Health England and the Football Association to encourage families to ‘get active’ continue to go from strength to strength.
Natasha Maynard, Nutrition and Scientific Affairs Manager at IGD, said: “Walt Disney’s Healthy Living programme particularly impressed the judges because it encompasses many different initiatives that are being implemented at great scale. In particular, the company has transformed its product range and partnerships with suppliers to make its portfolio healthier. The company’s ability to use the power of its characters as a force for good to encourage children to make healthier choices made Disney the obvious choice to win this award.”
