90% of teachers said they would use the Marvel Universe to teach space science again following a successful school pilot.
Astro Assemble is now rolling out across the nation, a new, interactive classroom learning resource for schools developed by the Royal Observatory Greenwich. In collaboration with Disney, Astro Assemble is a free-to-access tool designed to boost engagement in space science for Key Stage 2 and 3 students.
Astro Assemble is a science lesson with a difference, created with 1UP Studios to bring space science to life through interactive, team-based challenges. Inspired by Marvel characters including Captain Marvel, Iron Man and Thor, the resource invites students to explore the wonders of space while building problem-solving, collaboration and critical thinking skills.
Co-designed with teachers and tested with students, the resource has been designed to be free and accessible to all Key Stage 2 and 3 students, aligning with the national curriculum goals to make science feel inclusive and exciting. Astro Assemble engages learners who often struggle to connect with science, offering a fresh and imaginative way to build confidence and interest in STEM subjects.
Following a successful pilot earlier this year involving 350 students across eight schools, Astro Assemble has already demonstrated its impact:
- Confidence discussing space increased by 20%
- Students reported being 13% more likely to pursue a science career vs before their experience
- Teachers saw a 29% boost in confidence teaching space science
- 90% of teachers said they would use the Marvel Universe to teach space science again
Deborah Armstrong, Senior Vice President, Disney Advertising EMEA and Country Manager UK & Ireland said: “Great stories have the power to spark curiosity and inspire young people to see the world differently. By bringing Marvel into the classroom, Astro Assemble makes space science more engaging, imaginative and fun, and we hope it encourages students to keep exploring, questioning and dreaming big.”
Paddy Rodgers, Director of Royal Museums Greenwich said: “Royal Observatory Greenwich is the home of space and time, and our mission is to expand the public’s understanding of astronomy with inspiring experiences. We are proud to work with Disney on Astro Assemble to bring excitement to curriculum science, encouraging participation in learning and engaging classes with STEM essentials. We look forward to schools across the country enjoying this truly unique learning experience.”
Royal Observatory Greenwich is launching Astro Assemble in schools from today, with the interactive classroom available from the Royal Museums Greenwich website.
