Frozen Fashion Week officially kicks off from 12th October

Young models have come together to appear in a Disney Frozen 2-inspired fashion shoot to showcase the franchise’s A/W collection and kick off the first-of-its-kind Frozen Fashion Week.

The inaugural virtual Frozen Fashion Week is set in the enchanting world of Arendelle, and follows the recent London, New York, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.

Highlights of the new season’s lines were captured by fashion photographer, Mary McCartney, and released today to mark the announcement of Frozen Fashion Week. Mary McCartney, who has previously photographed famous faces including Kate Moss, Harry Styles, Madonna and Liv Tyler – and is the daughter of Sir Paul McCartney – has been appointed as the fashion week’s official photographer.

Several virtual shows featuring 16 kids modelling over 50 outfits from 11 retailers including Disney Store and H&M will be shown on the Disney Family Facebook channel from 12th October, with the week culminating in a full virtual fashion show on Sunday 18th October on Disney Junior’s YouTube channel. A taste of what’s to come can also be viewed now in an exclusive teaser going behind-the-scenes at Frozen Fashion Week.

The virtual fashion shows take inspiration from Frozen 2, magically transporting viewers to the world of Arendelle and beyond, with different areas nodding to elements of the movie including the enchanted forest and Elsa’s glacier which the river Ahtohallan leads her to.

As part of the Frozen fashion celebrations, Walt Disney Animation Studios has also released never-before-seen sketches of the initial designs for Elsa’s banquet gown in Frozen 2, drawn by Jean Gillmore, Visual Development Artist, and early visual development art of Elsa’s Snow Queen dress, created by Brittney Lee, Visual Development Artist. These images highlight the transitional journey of costume development from colour palette, style and hair design. The fashion designs continued to evolve and resulted in four different costumes for Elsa in Frozen 2, including her now-famous Snow Queen dress revealed during the critical point of the film, where Elsa becomes who she was always meant to be.

Mary McCartney, photographer, comments: Growing up I watched every Disney animation film, so this shoot has brought back many fond memories from those times. It warmed my heart to spend the day photographing these children playing dress up, and I could see how much they enjoyed being in the Arendelle-inspired world – singing along to the Frozen 2 soundtrack, as they modelled the collection.”

About Frozen 2

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? What truths about the past await Elsa as she ventures into the unknown to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond Arendelle? The answers are calling her but also threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll face a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen 2, she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen 2opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.
